What is the rotary evaporator cooled with?

Also known as rotary evaporators, modern rotary evaporators are not only standard in laboratories in industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals and biopharmaceuticals, but also play a*role*in the processing of high-value samples.

Rotary evaporators are usually cooled using a water cooling system.Specifically, the condenser tube or condenser of a rotary evaporator is designed as a jacket or jacketed structure that can pass water.Cooling water flows in through the inlet of the condenser, flows around the condenser, absorbs heat from the vapours inside the condenser, and then flows out through the outlet.

In this process, cooling water is usually supplied from a laboratory water source and piped to the rotary evaporator. The speed and pressure of the water flow can be adjusted by valves to control the cooling effect. To maintain the cooling efficiency,a circulating water bath or chiller may be used in the laboratory to keep the temperature of the cooling water constant.

In some advanced rotary evaporators,an electronic temperature control system may also be provided to precisely control the temperature of the cooling water to condense vapours more efficiently and to protect temperature-sensitive samples. In addition,to prevent the formation of scale and biofilms, deionised water or circulating water with added preservatives is sometimes used.

Classification:

Straight condenser tube:two straight glass tubes parallel inside and outside, mostly used for distillation of liquid with vapour temperature lower than 140℃,can not be used for reflux. In the upper and lower sides of its outer tube were connected to the pipe joints, used as the outlet and inlet.

Air condenser tube:there is a straight tube, directly relying on air condensation, commonly used in distillate boiling point higher than 140℃,so as to avoid the phenomenon of straight condenser tube through the water cooling leads to a large temperature difference between the glass and the phenomenon of cracking.

Spherical condenser tube:the inner tube for a number of glass balls connected to the reflux for organic preparations, for a variety of boiling point of the liquid.*After use,the rust in the spacer can be washed away with hydrochloric acid.Disadvantages:condensed liquid solidification is easy to get stuck in the glass ball, due to the water inlet water pressure is high so the hose is easy to fall off,use wire to tie.

Serpentine condenser tube:the inner tube is coiled up like a snake, used for reflux of organic preparation, suitable for liquids with low boiling point.
