A rotary evaporator is a commonly used piece of laboratory equipment for continuous distillation of volatile solvents under reduced pressure.When using a rotary evaporator,the following precautions need to be taken to ensure safety and efficiency:
1、rotary evaporator should be used to draw a small vacuum,and then open the rotation,in order to prevent the distillation flask slipping;stop,first stop the rotation,hand-held distillation flask,through the atmosphere,to be the vacuum drops to 0.04MPa or so and then stop the vacuum pump,in order to prevent the distillation flask fall off and backsorption.
2、A layer of vacuum grease should be applied to each grinding port,sealing surface sealing ring and joint before installation.
3、Heating tank must be filled with water before energising,and dry burning without water is not allowed.
4、If the vacuum degree is too low,pay attention to check the joints,vacuum tubes,glass bottle airtight.
5、rotary evaporation of air-sensitive substances,in the exhaust port connected to a nitrogen ball,the first through a burst of nitrogen,discharged rotary evaporator air,and then connected to the sample bottle rotary evaporation.Steam finished releasing nitrogen pressure,and then turn off the pump,and then remove the sample bottle sealed.
6、if the sample viscosity is very large,should slow down the rotation speed,better manual slow rotation,in order to be able to form a new liquid surface conducive to solvent evaporation.
7、Cleaning and maintenance,After use,clean the rotary evaporator in time to avoid solvent residue causing equipment corrosion.Carry out regular maintenance,check and replace seals,bearings and other wear parts.
8、Following the above precautions will ensure the safe use of the rotary evaporator,improve experimental efficiency and protect the safety of the operator.
To end the operation,when evaporation is complete,turn off the heater,then slowly release the vacuum,and finally turn off the vacuum pump.Wait for the equipment to cool down before disassembling to avoid damage caused by thermal expansion and contraction.
