Do you know the precautions for the use of laboratory rotary evaporator?

Laboratory rotary evaporator is commonly used for concentration, purification and recovery of solvents in chemical laboratories.

When using a rotary evaporator, you need to pay attention to the following matters:

1.Rotary evaporator should be used to draw a small vacuum(about 0.03MPa),and then start to rotate,in order to prevent the distillation flask slipping;stop, stop rotating,hand-held distillation flask, through the atmosphere,to be the vacuum drops to 0.04MPa or so and then stop the vacuum pump,in order to prevent the distillation flask off and backsorption.

2.A layer of vacuum grease needs to be applied to all interfaces, sealing surfaces, seals and joints before installation.

3.Heating must be added before power,do not allow dry burning without water.

4.If the vacuum level is too low,you should pay attention to check the air tightness of each joint, vacuum tube and glass bottle.

5.When distilling gas-sensitive substances, connect a nitrogen ball at the exhaust port, first pass a stream of nitrogen to exhaust the air inside the rotary evaporator, and then connect the sample bottle for rotary evaporation. After evaporation, release the nitrogen to pressurise, then turn off the vacuum pump and remove the sealed sample bottle.

6.If the sample for the viscosity of the impact is very large, should slow down the speed of rotary movement, manually rotate slowly through the rotation,in order to be able to form a new liquid surface is conducive to improve the solvent evaporation.

When using the rotary evaporator, you should strictly comply with the operating procedures, pay attention to safety,to ensure the smooth progress of the experiment.

Recommendations for routine maintenance and care:

Cleaning:

Clean the rotary evaporator housing regularly to remove dust and stains.

Clean the condenser tube to ensure that it is free of internal dirt and that the water flows freely.

Clean the evaporation and receiving bottles to ensure that there are no residues.

Clean the seals to ensure they are clean and undamaged.

Inspection:

Check the glass parts for cracks or breaks,if damaged, replace them promptly.

Check that the seals are intact and replace with new ones if they are deteriorated or damaged.

Check that the electrical connections are firm and free of exposed wires.

Check if the heater and temperature control system are working properly.

Lubrication:

Regularly add lubricant to the mechanical movement part of the rotary evaporator to ensure smooth rotation.

Be careful not to over-lubricate to avoid contamination of the sample.

Calibration:

Calibrate the temperature controller regularly to ensure accurate temperature readings.

If the unit has other calibratable features, they should also be calibrated according to the manufacturer's guidelines.

Drying:

After use,dry all parts of the unit thoroughly to avoid rust or damage to the unit due to moisture.

Storage:

When not in use,the rotary evaporator should be stored in a clean,dry,well-ventilated area.

Use:

During use, avoid rough operation and gently switch on and off each part.

Avoid sudden cooling at high temperatures to avoid thermal cracking of the glass parts.

Record:

Record the maintenance and care of the equipment, including cleaning, inspection, replacement of parts, etc.,in order to track the status of the equipment.

Professional Maintenance:

Have a professional technician perform a thorough inspection and maintenance on a regular basis.
